Basic Function

The Stationary Equipment Engineer position provides fixed equipment mechanical maintenance and reliability engineering support for the Clinton, Iowa facility. The candidate will support production unit maintenance/reliability efforts and drive improvements in maintenance work processes, procedures, performance, and cost. The Stationary Equipment Engineer is responsible for the design, maintenance, and optimization of stationary equipment, ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and compliance with industry standards. This role involves collaborating with various departments to enhance equipment reliability and performance.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical/engineering specifications for design of new and inspection/repair of existing pieces of mechanical equipment
  • Utilize knowledge of stationary equipment design concepts and industry standards to verify proposed designs/maintenance plans are adequate for long term reliability
  • Perform or interpret stress analysis on new or existing piping and pressure vessels
  • Troubleshoot issues with mechanical equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, pumps, gearboxes, blowers, turbogenerators, boilers)
  • Conduct investigations to determine root cause of equipment failures, complete and close findings as required
  • Lead or participate in site reliability improvement teams which identify, prioritize, and resolve leveraging maintenance / reliability / production issues
  • Mentor engineers, specialists, and planners and provide training in the area of stationary equipment repair and operation
  • Develop and maintain site systems and procedures to implement corporate engineering and operational excellence standards for stationary equipment
  • Support site Capital projects per corporate project management process and ensure compliance with corporate technical standards
  • Monitor equipment performance and make improvement recommendations
  • Consult with peers at the site and across the company
  • Function on multidisciplinary teams to support project design and commissioning

Min. Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries  
  • Working knowledge of stationary equipment engineering and inspection codes/standards and their application (API, ASME, ANSI)
  • General knowledge of project management, reliability engineering, and root cause analysis
  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills and ability to effectively communication complex issues across the organization
  • Understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow
  • Strong commitment to safety, a high level of personal integrity, and dedication to conducting business in an ethical way
  • Proficiency in, or ability to develop into a subject matter expert in a particular technology:
    • Industry piping, pressure vessel, and tank codes and standards (i.e. ASME, API)

    • Fixed Equipment (piping, flange make-up, pressure vessels, heat exchangers)

    • Stationary equipment design and repair fundamentals #LI-CB1
