Basic Function


The Analyzer Specialist position provides technical maintenance and reliability leadership across the Clinton Plant.  This position is accountable for overseeing the population of process analysis equipment and associated instrumentation and  communication architecture as well as supporting related maintenance teams.  The role routinely monitors equipment function to identify performance and reliability issues, supports troubleshooting efforts, and develops strategic plans to manage preventative maintenance, obsolescence, and spare parts needs.  Successful candidates for this role possess and actively grow their expertise in the process analyzer space and stay abreast of technology advancements through ongoing training and vendor interactions.  This position is responsible for developing technical skills within the department for their area of expertise and is a resource to other departments that utilize or interface with process analyzer technology (Production, Process Technical groups, Reliability staff, HSE personnel, etc.).

 

To effectively perform the duties of this position the individual must demonstrate:
•    Desire to deliver results with a track record of continuous improvement
•    Awareness of safety and environmental considerations for working in a petrochemical plant 
•    Proficiency in equipment troubleshooting and diagnostics, repair methods and plans, and an understanding of the relevant tools and equipment used to maintain process analyzers.
•    Excellent analytical skills to monitor and evaluate equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities
•    Basic understanding of analyzer design, specification, documentation, installation, and maintenance
•    Functional understanding of various analyzer technologies and hardware and how they are applied in petrochemical plants
•    Functional understanding of sample conditioning hardware and systems, and how they are applied in petrochemical plants
•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills to share complex concepts/issues across all levels of the organization
•    Ability to effectively engage with people at different levels of management, engineering and design, internal customers, and suppliers of materials and construction services.
 

Roles & Responsibilities


Routine Maintenance Support
•    Deliver day to day technical support for process analyzer maintenance teams
•    Support field work with technical leadership and team oversight, assisting with both prioritization and scope/path forward decisions
•    Collaborate with engineers and planners to develop or refine repair scope and plans
•    Participate in job or project constructability reviews when needed
•    Provide input to technical decisions and drive resolution to minimize the impact of discovery work, parts or tooling issues, or other barriers to job execution
•    Steward practices that ensure quality workmanship (use of procedures, completion of documentation, use of technical support resources, etc.)
•    Participate in critique efforts, offering feedback to planners, technicians, and supervisors to drive performance improvement
•    Participate in investigations and root cause failure analyses as needed
•    Provide ownership of E&I procedures and work instructions relating to analyzer equipment and its maintenance & repair
•    Support the MOC process for changes related to analyzer systems
•    Participate in the capital project management process as needed

Strategic Maintenance Support
•    Recommend items that require further review or improvement projects to Reliability Improvement Teams and Production & Reliability staff
•    Drive analyzer onstream time using reliability improvements, PM enhancements, and KPI’s
•    Develop an evergreen long range plan for analyzers using input from all available sources and drive its execution

MOWP Process Support
•    Review and improve maintenance systems, processes, and procedures to align with plant and company objectives
•    Document technical equipment maintenance history information 
•    Implement “state of the art” and “industry best practice” methods, programs, and tools
•    Champion the use of new tools to drive maintenance execution efficiency improvements (i.e. delay tracking, use of pictures and video recording, remote monitoring, etc.)
•    Prioritize analyzer work list, involving the unit specialists, PMC, scheduler, and E&I supervisor 
•    Process job plan feedback from technicians and supervisors and implement improvements
•    Recommend BOM and spare parts changes as needed
•    Participate in Instrument & Analyzer Global Process Network to seek and leverage experience 

Building a Strong Team
•    Serve as SME resource for analyzer technicians and assist with troubleshooting 
•    Mentor technicians and technical support staff to develop job skills
•    Identify and act on training needs through toolbox topics, mornings meetings, or individual training sessions
•    Assist with training plans for analyzer techs to enhance overall skill level and capabilities
•    Encourage sharing of lessons learned from previous work during morning huddles and other opportunities
•    Serve as a leader for one or more significant focus areas related to your field of expertise within the maintenance department
•    Dialog regularly with peer Specialists and stakeholders
•    Serve as an ad hoc resource for RIT’s
 

Min. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, minimum of five years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, preferably in a maintenance or technical support role.
  • Direct experience with the operation, troubleshooting, design and repair of online process analyzers and related instrumentation and communication architecture.
