Basic Function
The Maintenance Specialist position provides technical maintenance and reliability leadership across the Clinton Plant. This position is accountable for the identification and resolution of issues that impact the efficiency and/or quality of maintenance work. Incumbents in this position possess or are actively growing their expertise in a particular maintenance discipline. This position is responsible for developing technical skills within their function and for leading site-wide initiatives within the Maintenance Department.
Roles & Responsibilities
Routine Maintenance Support
• Provide leadership and guidance to maintenance crews for non-routine or complex repairs
• Support outages (both planned and unplanned) with technical leadership, shop surveillance, and crew leadership
• Collaborate with engineers and planners to develop or refine repair scope and plans
• Perform pre-execution job plan reviews with planners and other crafts to ensure the job plan is appropriate and will execute successfully
• Participate in job or project constructability reviews when needed
• Provide input to technical decisions and drive resolution to minimize the impact of discovery work, parts or tooling issues, or other barriers to job execution
• Steward the practices that ensure quality workmanship (use of procedures, completion of documentation, use of technical support resources, etc.)
• Participate in critique efforts, offering feedback to planners, technicians, and supervisors to drive department performance improvement
• Provide advanced troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues before resources are assigned
MOWP Process Support
• Evaluate and improve maintenance systems, processes, and procedures aligned with unit, plant, site, region and company objectives
• Document technical equipment maintenance history information (overhaul records, design changes, repair methods, etc.)
• Implement “state of the art” and “industry best practice” methods, programs, and tools
• Champion the use of new tools to drive maintenance execution efficiency improvements (i.e. delay tracking, video recording, remote monitoring, etc.)
• Assess work efficiency; partner with other staff to improve workflow and efficiency throughout the department
Building a Strong Team
- Mentor technicians and other technical support staff
- Participate in training needs assessment efforts and deliver skills training as needed
- Identify and act on informal training needs through toolbox topics, mornings meetings, or short training sessions
- Encourage sharing of lessons learned from previous work during morning huddles and other opportunities
- Serve as a leader for one or more significant focus areas within the maintenance department; some examples include
- Maintenance execution efficiency
- Outage execution performance
- Crane and rigging program
- Technician training and development
- Mobility and digitalization
- Human & organizational performance (H&OP)
Min. Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, preferably in a maintenance or technical support role; Related craft experience with the operation, troubleshooting, design and repair of chemical process equipment.
- Prior supervisory experience is a plus, strong computer and information management skills.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate complex concepts/issues across all levels of the organization.
• Extensive knowledge of industrial equipment used in chemical process technologies.

• Thorough understanding of external shop capabilities to supplement site resources.
• Desire to deliver results with a track record of continuous improvement.
• Working knowledge of IT tools including SAP and MS Office applications
