Basic Function

LyondellBasell Industries, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, is seeking a Laboratory Technician for our Cincinnati Technology Center (CTC), a state-of-the-art polymers research center supporting LyondellBasell’s North American Polymers business. This position resides within the Catalyst Research & Development Lab in MPD & CD group.

The Catalyst Laboratory Technician will be responsible for maintaining laboratory and process equipment and conducting laboratory experiments supporting technical projects. Systems include laboratory scale chemical reactors and feed systems, and inert atmosphere gloveboxes.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Strong commitment to process safety.
  • Maintain existing processes and equipment and upgrade to improve the quality of data.
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs of assigned equipment, including working with site maintenance personnel when appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain computer-based process control systems [experience with LabView preferred].
  • Participate in process hazard analyses of process equipment.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments related to catalyst chemistry, olefin polymerization, polymer characterization, and polymer processing.
  • Interface effectively with R&D Researchers with the planning, execution, problem solving, and communication of experimental results.
  • Work effectively with others in a team environment to accomplish group and site goals to achieve optimal results in a safe and effective manner.
  • Engage in frequent dialog with supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group safety, performance, and development.

Min. Qualifications

Associates degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related technical field, preferably with 3 or more years of experience working in an R&D laboratory or related industry operation, ideally with an aptitude for equipment maintenance and operation and process control knowledge. A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or engineering is preferred.

  • Positive team behaviors, including interpersonal skills, positive attitude, sharing information, and giving and accepting feedback.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Excellent eye-hand coordination and range of motion; Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, or kneel; Ability to descend four flights of stairs at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds from waist to shoulder occasionally
  • Ability to exert up to 70 pounds of push or pull force and 40 pounds of grip force.
