Basic Function

We are seeking a Polymer Researcher/Scientist to join our R&D Analytical team at the Cincinnati Technology Center (CTC) located in Cincinnati, OH. CTC functions as a Research and Development (R&D) Center for LyondellBasell’s North American Polymer Businesses. R&D focuses on improving polymers and polymer process technologies for our existing manufacturing facilities and on developing new technologies to meet LyondellBasell’s future business needs. As a member of the team you will support R&D Analytical Laboratories in reaching their objectives and annual goals. Roles & Responsibilities

This position will utilize a variety of Analytical testing techniques to solve problems related to fundamental polymer research, polymer characterization, process development, as well as manufacturing support for LyondellBasell’s plants. The candidate will also be responsible for planning, designing and executing experimental programs to reach business objectives.
 

Expected to serve as technical resource, maintain high-standards, positive attitude, good work ethics and train lab associates. Serve on multidisciplinary teams supporting product and application development efforts by solving complex problems. Participate in internal Expert Groups to leverage best practices, keep up-to-date with advances in the field of polymer research, play key role in introducing new polymer characterization technologies, new instrument evaluations and selections.
 

Duties include ensuring safe and efficient laboratory operations, overseeing the necessary calibrations, maintenance of the laboratory equipment, safe handling of all chemicals  and assisting with testing as needed. Ensure alignment of analytical testing, communication with management and customers while understanding priorities with business requirements.

Min. Qualifications

Minimum a PhD in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, physics or related scientific discipline is required. At least 1-5 years industrial/academic experience and/or 3 years of experience working in the polyolefins industry is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Have advanced theoretical/practical application knowledge of polymer characterization techniques with emphasis in NMR and elemental analysis.
 

Possess analytical problem solving, creative thinking skills, excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. Provides accurate information keeping customer focus. Ensure laboratory compliance with all safety standards, practices, and requirements
 

Demonstrate technical expertise through journal articles, reports, presentations, posters, and/or patents. Maintain up to date knowledge of key developments, trends and practices in the fields of polymer characterization through literature searches, reviews and conferences. Collaborate with others as a member of a cross-functional teams to create or utilize advanced techniques to discover, develop new technology. Good time management skills, project management skills and ability to work under pressure  to meet deadlines. Performs other duties as assigned.
