Basic Function

LyondellBasell Industries, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, is seeking an R&D Analytical Manager to join the management team for the Cincinnati Technology Center.  As a member of the Leadership Team you will lead the R&D Analytical Laboratory unit delivering on business unit objectives, developing strategic plans, annual goals, and optimizing work processes and technical capabilities.  The R&D Analytical Laboratory provides analytical support and polymer science to all LYB polymer businesses in the Americas which include internal and external customers, manufacturing plants, and 3rd party tollers.  You will provide leadership, development, and coaching to direct reports and support staff to create value and achieve targeted business results.  This position reports to the Site Manager of the Cincinnati Technology Center.

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Deliver GoalZERO HSE performance through strong leadership, employee involvement and management systems aligned with corporate Operational Excellence standards. 
•    Serve as member of the site’s Leadership team leading HSE, community outreach and site-wide initiatives and providing interim site operational coverage. 
•    Provide strategic leadership for the analytical chemistry and polymer science function for LYB Americas polymers R&D.  Develop team member skills to meet new technical challenges in the area of sustainability and mechanical recycling of polyolefins.
•    Manage a multidisciplinary group, which provides analytical information to R&D and other corporate functions and to external customers. Provide short and long term planning for department on technology, budget, and staffing. Determine resources, time and cost allocations for analytical and polymer science projects. 
•    Manage on-line analytical activities. Accountable for IMR process analytical technology design and implementation into the manufacturing units. 
•    Direct the proprietary, unique and routine analyses of polymer samples and precursors. Accountable for accurate, reliable, and timely information to the organization. 
•    Responsible for the development and implementation of analytical methods and new analytical technology for R&D, manufacturing units, and external customers. Provide consulting and problem solving for the businesses supported. 
•    Provide value to the organization through process improvements, resource efficiency improvements, workflow, technology, and leading and participating on multi-organizational project teams 
•    Train, develop, motivate, assess, and recruit technical and non-technical staff members. 
•    Responsible for providing a safe and healthful working environment for Analytical labs. 
•    Interact with a wide variety of senior managers, customers (internal and external), government officials, consultants, and auditors on analytical issues related to business projects. 
•    Support global PT&C Expert Groups ensuring analytical structure/property efforts are aligned with the global PT&C vision and ensuring collaboration and sharing of knowledge. 
•    Work with IT to promote R&D projects, manage R&D resources, monitor and guide work. 
•    As Records Coordinator ensures global record security, storage and retention requirements are known and followed at the site. 

Min. Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Analytical Chemistry or related field with a minimum of 10 years of management in the petrochemical or polyolefin industry.  Leadership of R&D or relevant laboratory operations preferred.
•    Strong people and organizational leadership acumen, strategic leadership, technical orientation, and customer focus demonstrated through previous experience within R&D and across the organization. 
•    Exceptional oral and written communication skills and ability to sell new concepts in research, business and manufacturing environments.
