Basic Function

LyondellBasell (NYSE: LYB) is one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies and a member of the S&P 500, is seeking a Lab Supervisor to join our R&D Analytical team at the Cincinnati.  

Technology Center (CTC) located in the Cincinnati, OH area.

As a member of the team you will support the R&D Analytical Laboratory business needs.  This position reports to the Analytical Lab Manager of the Cincinnati Technology Center.

Roles & Responsibilities

The primary role of the R&D lab supervisor will be to supervise lab associates, manage resources, lead, motivate, empower, influence, encourage innovation and improve efficiencies supporting LyondellBasell vision, mission, values.


  • Demonstrate ability to motivate, influence and provide leadership and mentoring to employees and create a positive culture that supports high employee morale.
  • Ensuring efficient laboratory operations, manpower/resource allocations based on the needs, effectively uses dialog to improve performance of direct reports
  • Conducts regular dialogs with employees to promote LyondellBasell vision, mission, values, ensure alignment of Analytical group vision, develop employees and assure alignment of their annual goals with those of R&D and the business
  • Directs daily laboratory work to ensure alignment of business goals and testing priorities, effective use of time, equipment and lab associate staff, and improve efficiencies
  • Maintain regular communications with management

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, material science or an any other related scientific discipline is required. A post graduate degree is in Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Sustainability, Chemical engineering, Environmental, Bioanalytical, Physics, Material Science or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership/management/supervisory experience is required, 3-5 years is preferred.
  • Experience in maintaining lab computers, and lab IT efforts would be preferred
  • 3-5 years of leadership/management/supervisory experience in R&D/industrial/academic or related discipline is required
  • A strong background in analytical testing related to polymers would be beneficial.
