Basic Function

LyondellBasell’s Cincinnati Technology Center is seeking a laboratory associate for the catalyst laboratory.  The technician will be responsible for maintaining laboratory and process equipment and conducting laboratory experiments supporting technical projects. Systems include laboratory-scale reactors, feedstock, and inert atmosphere gloveboxes. 

 

The Cincinnati Technology Center provides research, development, and technical services for catalysts, polymers and polymer recycling in a laboratory setting. The catalyst lab enhances catalyst performance and identifies new catalyst systems that provide polyolefins with unique attributes, resulting in superior resin products. The site has a strong HSE performance and a positive work culture.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Work safely and participate in activities to improve safety performance of site.
  • Contribute to the site’s positive work culture.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments related to catalyst chemistry, olefin polymerization, polymer characterization, polymer processing, and document results.
  • Maintain existing processes and equipment and upgrade to improve the quality of data.
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs of assigned equipment, including working with site maintenance personnel when appropriate.
  • Support researchers in planning, executing, problem-solving, and communicating experimental results.
  • Work effectively with others to achieve group and site goals in a safe and effective manner.

Min. Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Chemistry or a related technical field preferably with experience in an R&D, manufacturing, or industrial laboratory
  • Excellent chemical handling skills and willingness to work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals with proper safety precautions, equipment, and training.
  • Highly self-motivated individual, focused on providing high quality laboratory data in an efficient manner, while exhibiting excellent workplace skills
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Solid background in Microsoft Office and computer-based instrument control systems (LabView preferred).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple and or changing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds from waist to shoulder occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with 0-5 years relevant experience.
