Basic Function

Mechanical Millwrights/Machinist Techs are tasked to apply mechanical expertise to insure the safe and reliable operation of site process plants and reduce operating costs. This is accomplished by executing assigned work according to plan and schedule, noting any job plan deviations, and providing input on improvement opportunities.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provides support for new equipment installation and proactive maintenance to process equipment.
  • Provides technical expertise for efficient and effective installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, pro-active maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of unit equipment.
  • Provides Quality Assurance oversight related to construction related machinery installations.
  • Ability to diagnose issues with and repair pumps, compressors, turbines, extruders, and their related piping systems as needed to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Monitors field construction activities and provide progress/status updates to machinery lead.
  • Acquiring all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job to maximize work efficiency.
  • Operate engine lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders and other machine shop equipment to perform machining operations on industrial equipment – pumps, turbines, gearboxes, motors.
  • Completing all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Respond to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.
  • Ensure contractors comply with equipment inspection & test plans (ITP’s).
  • Identify issues related to quality control of machinery installation by contractor. This may include recommending actions to correct deficiencies.
  • Candidate will be required to work with other Maintenance Technicians, Operations Technicians, and Engineers as job scope dictates.

Min. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Minimum of 8 years of maintenance millwright / machinist experience in an industrial environment.
  • Minimum of 4 years of Hydrocarbons, POSM 1 / 2 and Olefins rotating equipment experience.
  • Must have working knowledge of rotating equipment design and application for various types of machinery: turbo machinery, process pumps, reciprocating compressors and process fans.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and detailed machinery drawings to ensure accurate machined parts.
  • Ability to select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for optimal machining results.
  • Ability to align equipment utilizing either indicators or laser alignment methods.
  • Ability to conduct precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, and other instruments to meet tight tolerances.
  • Familiarity with a variety of materials, including stainless steel alloys, chrome, alloy 20, Monel, Inconel, Hastelloy, and a105/LF2.
  • Knowledge of monitoring gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated history of multi-craft expertise in addition to Millwright is a plus.
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical rigging in accordance with OSHA requirements is preferred.
  • Machine shop safety management experience.
  • Machinist certification from a college or technical school.Preferred candidates will have an Associate Degree in a maintenance related field or have equivalent industrial/military work experience.
