The Security Supervisor is responsible for leading and directing all day-to-day security operations for the Channelview Complex, including the supervision of security personnel, enforcement of security policies and procedures, response to security and emergency events, and oversight of investigations. Serving as the primary security focal point for the site, this role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and LYB standards while providing leadership and guidance to approximately 50+ contract security personnel and 4 hourly LYB Security Technicians. The Security Supervisor coordinates and oversees loss prevention, physical security, and related operational processes, while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. The position is responsible for coaching, developing, and leading team members to achieve business objectives, enhance site security performance, and support the safe and reliable operation of the Channelview Complex. 

A Day in the Life

Serve as Facility Security Officer (FSO) for all MTSA requirements per 33 CFR 105.105 

Supervise and develop four security technicians that effectively enforce company policies, procedures, and programs. 

Direct and coordinate the activities of the contract security force to maintain site security readiness, ensure compliance with MARSEC and MTSA requirements, support the Facility Security Plan, and effectively respond to security-related events or changes in security posture. 

Develop and implement security plans, procedures, training programs, and drills & exercises programs that meet regulatory requirements, industry standards, applicable codes, and performance standards.  

Conduct security vulnerability assessments and development of cost-effective plans to mitigate identified vulnerabilities.  

Act as the primary liaison with the U.S. Coast Guard, local law enforcement, emergency responders, and other regulatory or government agencies related to facility security matters. 

Maintain security records and documentation, including training records, drill/exercise records, audits, incident reports, access control records, and regulatory compliance documentation. 

Support emergency response and crisis management activities, including coordination with operations, HSE, emergency response teams, and external agencies during security or emergency events. 

Oversee access control programs, including TWIC compliance, credentialing, badging, visitor access, contractor access, and restricted area controls. 

Monitor and evaluate security systems, including cameras, gates, alarms, access control systems, radios, and other physical security equipment to ensure effectiveness and reliability. 

Perform internal investigations and follow-ups. 

Design and consult on security related capital and other projects.   

You Bring This Value

Bachelor's degree and typically a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in security, health, safety and environmental (HSE), emergency response, or a related field; alternatively, typically 10 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience within the refining, petrochemical, or other industrial manufacturing environments is preferred. 

Minimum of 3 years of experience specifically in security, HSE, emergency response, or a related discipline, preferably within the refining or petrochemical industry. 

Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, and developing employees and/or contractors in a management or people leadership capacity. 

Proven experience developing, implementing, and managing plans, systems, programs, processes, and procedures that support security, safety, or emergency response operations. 

Experience conducting investigations, documenting findings, and driving appropriate corrective actions and follow-up activities. 

Experience representing an organization and collaborating with local law enforcement, emergency responders, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders. 

Working knowledge of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requirements and the ability to maintain required qualifications, certifications, licenses, and security-related compliance standards. 

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. 

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). 

Ability to obtain and maintain any additional DHS, regulatory, or company-required qualifications, certifications, licenses, and security clearances as necessary. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

BS degree in Criminal Justice, Security, Safety or Emergency Management 

Facility Security Officer certification preferred. 

Knowledge of regulatory and industry security compliance standards 

Training and education in emergency response is preferred. 

Knowledge with security IT systems management (i.e., Lenel OnGuard, Emerge/E-Notify, ISNetworld, etc.)
