The SIS Engineer is to be one of the SIS technical authorities for the CVO complex ensuring that the SIS lifecycle is followed throughout all phases of the safety life cycle. This position will support the Propylene Oxide Tertiary Butyl Alcohol (POTBA) Project.
A Day in the Life
Life Cycle Asset Management
• Oversee SIS life cycle
• SIS Technical Authority for the site to oversee SIS Lifecycle
• Maintain SRS (Safety Requirement Specifications) data
• Participate on project teams responsible for SIS additions or modifications
• Participate on all SIS FAT’s.
• Oversee SIS proof testing program.
• Evaluate results of proof testing and recommend adjustments when needed
• Manage timely completion of assigned action items and/or defined data submissions; participate in review and extension meetings
• Recommend actions to maintain optimum performance focusing on defect elimination of SIS components
• Provide innovative solutions to solve complex SIS issues
• Partner with Manufacturing and/or Business contacts to develop and implement plans to maximize revenues then adjust plans as conditions warrant
Risk Management
• Participate in OE / PSM activities (PHAs, MOCs, etc.), Engineering, Turnaround, etc. as necessary
• Actively support key site work processes of Assure Safe Production (ASP) and Maintenance Operations Workflow Process (MOWP)
• Instrumentation Expertise and Support
• Perform and record SIL verification calculations
• Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving support to SIS related issues
Develop Others
• Mentor and coach team members based on observations and feedback
• Support Engineering Development in training of company engineers.
Process Safety
• Create MOCs and lead evaluations for Instrumentation associated PSM activities
• Complete assigned MOC and IMPACT action items, per procedure
• Participate in unit PHAs and RCFAs as needed
• Conduct OE-Self assessments / process safety audits
Principal Accountability
• Accountable for tracking long term SIS bad actors and working with maintenance and operations to resolve issues on SIS systems.
• Interface with Global Engineering and Turnarounds (GET) and SIS Technical Network to help drive company SIS related standards and process
• Accountable for day to day technical support of unit SIS Instrumentation
• Oversee implementation of SIS scope of expense, capital, and general improvement projects in assigned process units
• Constructive participation in investigation and resolution of unplanned events associated with SIS instrumentation
• Work with Reliability group to review preventive maintenance (PM) plans, maintenance procedures, and relevant work instructions
Authority
• Stop any work immediately when it is believed to be unsafe.
• Enforce application of corporate, industry, and company standards and procedures
• Approve assigned Design packages for Capital and Expense Projects
• Develop Capital and Expense Long Range Plans including creating SIS Project Initiation Forms (PIF)
• Help technical group evaluate Individual Protection Layers (IPL)
You Bring This Value
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
• Commitment to GoalZERO
• Good verbal and written communication and computing skills
• Good leadership and organizational skills with self-motivation and high initiative
• Ability to work across multi-disciplinary (Technical, Reliability, Projects and CSE) teams and interact with all levels of the organization
• Technical understanding of unit processes
• A working knowledge of functional safety in the process industries
• Process safety engineering knowledge (e.g. HAZOP’s, PHA’s, LOPA )
• Engineering knowledge, and experience appropriate to understand the process and the safety review
• Experience in the following SIS platforms- Honeywell Safety Manager, DeltaV SIS, Triconex.
• Experience to assess the applied technology in respect to instrumentation, Safety-PLC's, logic, final elements, power supplies
• Knowledge of Industry and LBI safety requirements and standards as well as local legal requirements
• Adequate management and leadership skills to define and implement local SIS procedures and to discuss SIS related topics with local authorities and vendors
• Knowledge, training and experience necessary to validate SIL's including performing SIL calculations and making design and maintenance recommendations to facilitate compliance
• Knowledge and experience necessary to facilitate FAT/SAT of SIS
• Knowledge, training and experience necessary for performing SIS related incident investigations
• Has successfully completed an industry recognized SIS training with a written exam to pass (Ex. ISA84 , TÜV , INERIS, CFSE)
