Basic Function

This position’s primary role will be to help drive decisions on selecting and developing Sustainable / Low Carbon technologies that will advance LyondellBasell’s goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050. Focus will be on conducting techno-economic evaluations of emerging and/or improved technologies and potentially managing external projects or collaborations.

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Evaluate new or emerging technologies, growth opportunities, and plant improvement projects. Scale of projects to be evaluated ranges from minor retrofits of existing units to evaluating major grassroots investments
•    Techno-economic evaluations of Sustainable / Low Carbon technologies including carbon footprint estimation will be a particular focus.
•    Responsible for developing conceptual process flowsheets including heat and material balances, sized equipment lists, process simulations, and capital and operating cost estimates to support R&D, Business and Sustainability opportunities.
•    Life cycle analysis coordination with external consultants
•    Coordination of external programs and collaborations
•    Provides financial analysis to I&D and Olefins R&D supported businesses by analyzing competitive intelligence from consultant reports and commercial contacts, updating cost of production models and industry cost curves and presenting results to R&D and business management.
•    Develop a good understanding of our competitors’ processes and drive technology leadership internally
•    Work effectively with Researchers, Global R&D, Manufacturing, Global Engineering, Sustainability and the Businesses for alignment of activities and efficient execution of R&D and Sustainability / Low Carbon projects.
•    Lead or participate in multi-functional project teams to support local or worldwide business and sustainability objectives.
•    Develop and maintain forecasting models for necessary raw materials, products, and utilities and interact with various business groups to ensure alignment of R&D’s tools with business beliefs. 
•    Successful candidate will have or develop deep understanding of the company’s core technologies and will contribute to identifying new opportunities for business growth, cost reductions, and improvements to company safety and environmental performance.
 

Min. Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical Engineering required, advanced technical or MBA degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in chemicals, petrochemicals, or refining industries
  • R&D or engineering experience required in addition to experience in one of the following disciplines: R&D, engineering, business development and/or manufacturing
  • Strong process simulation skills a must, ideally with experience using ASPEN Plus and ASPEN Capital Cost Estimator.
  • Life cycle analysis experience is preferred.
  • Planning, evaluation, project management and/or business analysis experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills with the ability to handle complex analytical assignments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required to work with senior management and to operate effectively on global multifunctional teams.
  • Advanced PC skills, including spreadsheets, database, graphics, statistical forecasting, and modeling.
