LyondellBasell is staffing for an Olefins Technical Manager for the Channelview, TX Manufacturing Complex, located 18 miles from downtown Houston. Our 4,000-acre Channelview Complex consists of two olefin units at the north side facility that manufacture ethylene, propylene, butadiene and benzene. The south side facility uses many of these products to produce propylene oxide, styrene monomer and other derivatives. 

We are seeking a Technical Manager to join the Extended Leadership Team for the Channelview Complex. As a member of the Extended Leadership Team you will lead the Olefins Technical organization, develop strategic plans and annual goals, and drive benchmarking and gap closure efforts in alignment with global manufacturing and commercial strategic plans. You will participate on corporate teams to help champion and implement strategic objectives and provide leadership, development, and coaching to direct reports and support staff to achieve business results and optimize the site as part of a high performing organization. This position reports to the Site Technical Manager of the Channelview Complex.

A Day in the Life

  • Providing technical oversight to assure GoalZERO HSE performance.
  • Ensure adherence to company management systems supporting Process Safety and Process Hazard Analysis.
  • Participate, lead, and implement site, regional, and corporate initiatives.
  • Ensure that Code of Conduct and all other LyondellBasell policies are consistently followed and administered within the organization. 
  • Driving improvement through effective gap closure plans for operating units.
  • Identifying unit and site-wide improvement opportunities and driving closure of these ideas by effective use of site resources.
  • Prepare and manage the Olefins Technical budget in a cost efficient and responsible way that meets the goals of the site.
  • Participate actively with the business team to create, plan, organize and execute short and long-range objectives to ensure continued site and business alignment, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with the other functions at the site to identify integration opportunities and implement these initiatives within your departments.
  • Set clear performance expectations, coach and mentor personnel in the technical organization.

You Bring This Value

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field (Chemical Engineering preferred) with a minimum of 9 years of experience in chemical plant or refinery operations.
  • Previous supervisory and/or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with HSE, operating, maintenance, and engineering processes and procedures, business fundamentals, and shared services role in manufacturing.
  • Ability to effectively manage the performance of the technical employees.
  • Strong people and organizational leadership acumen demonstrated through previous experience within manufacturing.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to interface with all organizational levels within the company.
