Lab Technician, Analytical

Basic Function

This technician will be responsible for performing routine analytical testing using a variety of analytical equipment and techniques used in I&D R&D, such as GC, LC, chemical analysis, and elemental analysis on organic chemical and catalyst samples.  The incumbent will be responsible for preparing samples, operating and maintaining analytical equipment, conducting data analysis, and documenting results and observations in a laboratory information system (LIMS).

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Performing work in a safe manner at all times and actively participating in R&D safety programs.
  • Timely delivery of accurate and precise analytical results to R&D and other departments following established methodology.
  • Calibration, operation and maintenance of computer-controlled analytical instruments and troubleshooting of instrument and method problems.
  • Installation of analytical equipment and method implementation and development.
  • Work in a team environment with people of various backgrounds as a participant or in a leadership role.
  • Share sample management duties with other team members (LIMS data entry, sample splitting)
  • Interacting with internal customers and co-workers on a regular basis to determine priorities, testing needs, and to communicate results in a timely manner.
  • This job will frequently require standing, bending repeatedly at the waist, walking, and occasionally lifting and/or moving items up to 20 lbs.

Min. Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of a 2-year laboratory technician degree plus 3 years of laboratory experience, or demonstration of equivalent skills and experience. Bachelor’s degree in a scientific subject desirable.
  • A strong background in Gas Chromatography and On-line Gas Chromatography with at least 1-4 years of experience in chemical sample analysis and preparation techniques for these technologies is required.  Experience with GC/Online GC installation and troubleshooting preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of other analytical equipment and techniques used in I&D R&D, such as GC, LC, chemical analysis, and elemental analysis.
  • Good oral / written communication, organizational, mechanical, and teamwork skills.
  • Computer literacy, basic math and data analysis skills.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Experience in petrochemical analysis, propylene oxide and/or acetyls analytical support, and experience using Chromeleon, Sample Manager LIMS and SAP, are desirable.
