High Voltage Maintenance Technicians are tasked to apply electrical expertise daily to insure the safe and reliable operation of site process plants while reduce operating costs.  This is accomplished thru executing assigned work according to plan and schedule, noting any job plan deviations, and providing input on improvement opportunities.

A Day in the Life:

Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers while promoting a safe work environment. Responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
• Technician will support routine maintenance, preventative maintenance and testing functions of high voltage equipment along with project coordination, installation of new systems and engineering support.  The maintenance technician is responsible for switching, installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, system and component troubleshooting and documentation of electrical equipment associated with the plant.
• Technician will be responsible for emergency electrical maintenance support during non-working hours.
• Execute scheduled work by:
o Reviewing assigned job scopes for completeness and understanding.
o Acquiring all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job to maximize work efficiency.
o Following all necessary safety procedures and practices to isolate, clear, and work on plant equipment.
o Ensuring work is completed per company and industry standards.
o Working with equipment owner to complete task in a safe and timely manner.
o Updating supervisor on job progress and/or any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work.
o Completing all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.
• Respond to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.
• Promote and work in an environment in which everyone is treated with respect.
• Identify and implement reliability driven improvements.  This may include participation in site reliability teams.
• Participate on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development, and improving the work place environment.
• Will also be required to mentor other technicians when necessary. 

You Bring This Value :

Typically, a minimum of 5 years of field experience as an electrical technician performing maintenance activities on high voltage electrical distribution power systems is required.  This working environment requires contact with persons from all departments within the company, therefore the candidate must possess good interpersonal skills to facilitate team decisions.

 

The candidate should also have significant field experience and knowledge in the following areas:

• 138KV Substations (gas circuit breakers, air switches)
• Power transformers, (Power Factor Testing, Hi-Pot, Ductor, VLF, Tan Delta & Sweep Frequency)
• Protective relays (electromechanical, solid state, microprocessor, ProTest, Protection Suite)
• Current and potential transformers, metering equipment
• 15KV plant distribution equipment (switchgear, vacuum and air magnetic circuit breakers, air switches)
• 5KV switchgear, vacuum & air magnetic circuit breakers, air switches, motor control centers
• 480-V switchgear, power circuit breakers, primary injection testing, motor control centers
• Backup generators
• Uninterruptible Power Systems
• Substation and UPS battery systems
• Must have high school diploma or GED equivalency. 
• Must be able to possess a valid TWIC Card.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
• Must be willing and able to provide overtime coverage and to work plant call-outs.
• Must be willing to work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training, and equipment).
• Must be willing to work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment.
• Must be willing and able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be willing and able to work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Must be willing and able to work in tight or confined spaces.
• Must be willing and able to work at heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders.


Other Requirements:
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse set of cross functional groups.
• Commitment to the high voltage craft while being willing to learn and accept new challenges.
• Able to operate various types of equipment including hand, power, and machine tools.
• Ability to read and interpret common P&ID's, equipment drawings, and schematics.
• Complete tasks wearing required personal protective equipment which may include fire protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.

 

Ideal candidate will possess a two-year degree in electrical, electronics or engineering.

Preferred candidates will have an associate degree or higher, military electrical training and experience, and/or completed an electrical related apprenticeship.
