Engineer, Project

Basic Function

This position is accountable for managing the development and execution of multiple capital projects through all assigned phases. The project engineer assembles and leads the required cross-functional team to achieve agreed cost, schedule, quality, operability and safety objectives established for all assigned projects.  This position is eligible to work from home up to 3 days per week!

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Employ LyondellBasell's phase gate Project Management Process (PMP) in execution of capital projects up to $5MM total installed costs (TIC) 
•    Oversee long-range capital expenditure planning for assigned sites 
•    Support definition of project objectives, scope development, and front end engineering in support of the project objectives 
•    Develop documents necessary for project funding gate reviews and complete project reporting
•    Prepare and implement project execution plans and PMP checklist activities
•    Execute projects consistent with approved project objectives and assume accountability for overall HSE, cost, and schedule performance during development, execution, commissioning and startup of projects
•    Identify, analyze, and manage risk on projects
•    Lead multi-discipline project teams, including company and contract personnel, in resolution of technical and commercial issues
•    Prepare and present project updates to management
•    Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
•    Gather information and develop a thorough understanding of the project
•    Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with internal and external clients 
•    Demonstrate strong personal initiative and effective interpersonal skills
•    Provide inputs to continuous improvement of capital project development and management
•    Ensure Code of Conduct and all other LyondellBasell policies are consistently followed and administered
•    Interface effectively with all organization levels within the company

Min. Qualifications

• Eight (8) years of prior experience working in compounding, extrusion, chemical, petrochemical, refining and/or similar industry
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical degree
• Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
• Able to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and projects effectively
• Able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with internal and external clients
• Strong teamwork, results orientation and organizational skills
• Familiarity with applicable engineering codes/standards and their application.
• Working knowledge of equipment procurement and construction through prior experience working with contractors, vendors and purchasing to accomplish the work scope
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
• General experience using ERP systems such as SAP
• Understanding of Management of Change processes

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of and experience in project management processes, engineering, procurement and construction is preferred.
• Five (5) or more years direct experience as a Project Engineer or Project Manager
• Professional Engineer (PE) and/or PMP Certification
• Advanced working knowledge of SAP functionality
