Basic Function

LyondellBasell is staffing for Production Engineers for our Channelview, TX Manufacturing Complex, located 18 miles from downtown Houston. Our 4,000-acre Channelview Complex consists of a North facility with two Olefin units with downstream processing that manufacture Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, MTBE, Alkylate, C5’s and Aromatics as well as separate Methanol and Isopropanol units. The South facility uses many of these products to produce Propylene Oxide, Styrene Monomer, ETBE and BDO derivatives.

The Production Engineer will monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize operating units to drive process and product improvements. The individual will identify, recommend and implement strategic projects to improve unit performance and collaborate with unit specialists and other engineers to support process design and implementation of capital projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop systems to improve and sustain value in the areas of health, safety, environment, production rates, reliability, cost and quality.
  • Maintain strong safety and environmental compliance focus.
  • Monitor performance of heat exchangers, catalyst, and chemical usage & variable cost through Monthly KPI meetings.
  • Contribute in a team environment and establish work relationships with onsite and offsite functional groups to achieve results.
  • Monitor catalyst performance daily and recommend reactor swaps and catalyst changes.
  • Develop recommendations to improve unit performance.
  • Provide process design support for capital projects.
  • Balance day-to-day operational priorities with long term strategic objectives to ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Partners with the Process Control Group to ensure that unit DMC has the correct limits; also, that the correct objectives are being pushed by the DMC.
  • Monitors feed quality and communicates issues upstream for resolution.
  • Provide backup technical support for other processing units.
  • Engages in and provides technical expertise for PHA’s, MOC’s, PSV calculations, Safety Critical Equipment/Variables, Incident Investigations, Alarm Management, etc.


  • BS in Chemical Engineering minimum.
  • A minimum of 3 years of production/process engineering experience.
