Business Analyst, Polyolefins Pricing

Basic Function

This position provides Asset Manager, Regional Managers, Marketing, Sales Director, Business Director and Demand Planners with pricing analysis (internal/market), inventory analysis and market analysis to understand the market environment and related China asset supply/inventory situation to make decision on price setting and product allocation. 


The incumbent serves as the focal point to evaluate, report, and make recommendations related to a range of activities. These activities include both commercial and operational decisions related to setting product prices on China sub-region level and export as well as monthly/ad hoc product allocation to product hubs in China.


The incumbent is considered an expert with a span of pricing and market knowledge extending across polyolefin market in China.


The position frequently interfaces with the Asset Manager, Asia Sales Director, Marketing Managers and China JV business counterparts.  The incumbent is a core member of the Business Team (along with the Asset Manager, Regional Sales Manager, Marketing Manager, Account Manager and Operations Planner).


The position requires also interaction with operational staff groups (such as Supply Chain), the Joint Venture or JV Business/Planning staff group and a broad array of functional groups such as Finance & Control and Credit.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide product weekly/daily price analysis reports by sub-region in China which include price trend, market drivers/dynamics with reference to Customer Management team intelligence and external reports.
  • Frequently monitor, analyze and report on competitor price changes and marketplace condition in a timely manner within the day. 
  • Provide price direction recommendation to Asset Manager with reference to feedstock, competitive context such as turnaround, news of change on co-producer production mix, etc.
  • Compile and issue product price guideline to Customer Management team.  The incumbent is not an authorized approver for pricing and act under the supervision of Asset Manager (authorized approver) to issue price. 
  • Maintain pricing activity reports to ensure on-going visibility of pricing activities of relevant products and all sub-regions.
  • Understand product groups pricing performance vs. external benchmarks and recommend direction/actions to close gaps where appropriate.
  • Identify key drivers on relevant products pricing and netback contribution.  Provide analysis to identify key product segments and customers contribution to facilitate business decision making.
  • Provide customer formula price analysis support to Asset Manager with reference but not limited to market product and feedstock price trend.   
  • Provide price analysis to Asset Manager and Business on the Enterprise Planning Process for relevant products to support the Annual Business Plan or Budget processes.
Min. Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of working experience, with 4 years or more in polyolefins or related chemical industry and RMB domestic sales experience in China.  Business analysis experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in either a technical or business field;
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Interpersonal skills required to work with senior managers and to operate effectively as an in-house consultant.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Advanced PC skills, including spreadsheets and graphics.  Proficiency on Excel VBA preferred.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English language skills
  • Able to read and write Chinese and communicate in Mandarin
