To support our professional team in Bornem, we are looking for a:

 

Compounding Engineer

 

Function:

As a Compounding Engineer, you contribute to the development, improvement and implementation of new products that meet the needs of the customer (internal and external). You provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders, both in the context of existing products and in the launch of new products.  The work activities are performed according to the business strategy & needs.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

Product development (estimated at 55% of working time):

  •               Developing, improving and implementing new and existing masterbatch products that meet the requirements and needs of the market with a focus on compounding projects;
  •               Responsible as project manager for the entire product development taking into consideration all regulatory aspects (food contact, REACH,...), cost aspects and processability;
  •               Tasks include, but are not limited to: defining recipes, setting up test plans, coordinating application testing, coordinating and evaluating physical properties as well as analytical testing, feasibility check of new ideas for product development, raw material choices, setting up the processing window and production feasibility check. Regular project updates to various stakeholders (gate review meetings, monthly and quarterly project updates). Technical responsibility for a specific product portfolio.  

 

Compounding support (estimated at 40% of working time):

  •               Supporting the PAD and processing team in defining the processing capabilities as well as setting up the processing window for newly developed products and/or improved existing products.
  • Propose guidelines for upscaling of new and existing products to the Process Engineers. 
  • Act as backup to the PAD lab manager for planning the extrusion lab line.

 

Scientific & state-of-the-art (estimated at 5% of working time):

  •               Ensure to be up to date with recent developments (state-of-the-art) in the area of raw materials, masterbatches and compounding technology by reading literature, patents, attending conferences, fairs and regular meetings with suppliers and machine manufacturers. 

 

Profile:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of compounding and extrusion
  • Knowledge of polymers, additives and their applications
  • Knowledge of product development

  • A fluent Dutch and English knowledge
  • Knowledge of SAP and Sopheon is a plus
