In June 2025, LYB announced entering into an agreement and exclusive negotiations for the sale of four olefins & polyolefins sites and the associated business in Europe. The sites to be sold are located in Berre (France), Münchsmünster (Germany), Carrington (UK), and Tarragona (Spain). The sites together represent a scaled olefins and polyolefins platform strategically located in proximity to a longstanding customer base and with access and connectivity to key infrastructure.

Closing of the proposed transaction is currently expected in the first half of 2026. From the start, the new company will be a scaled leader in European Olefins & Polyolefins. In this position, you will act as a Corporate Subject Matter Expert (SME) for electrical systems/equipment including: motors, drives, MCCs, switchgear, UPS, emergency power, EX equipment, across NewCo European Refining and petrochemical assets.

 

You will provide high‑level technical expertise to ensure all electrical equipment/systems across the organisation are designed, operated, inspected, and maintained in accordance with European and UK regulations/legislation, international codes, and Company standards.

 

You will support Turnarounds (TA’s), develop repair strategies, and provide technical guidance to each of the Manufacturing Sites and respective Project Teams as and where necessary. The role requires strong Engineering judgement, the ability to work across diverse multicultural teams, and a commitment to both Process and Occupational Safety as well as Operational Excellence.

 

You will also contribute to corporate standards, drive Continuous Improvement initiatives, support incident investigations, and mentor Engineers across the each of the European Assets.

A Day in the Life

  • Serve as a corporate SME for Electrical Systems/Equipment, including: motors, drives, MCCs, switchgear, UPS, Emergency Power systems, EX equipment etc.
  • Provide expert technical support/leadership to each of the NewCo Manufacturing Sites for equipment design, Maintenance, Inspection, TA’s Capital Projects, as and where required.
  • Provide SME support during major Turnarounds and outages, developing repair strategies, inspection scopes and electrical assessment packs across the Europe assets as per the TA schedule for NewCo.
  • Lead troubleshooting for motor failures, VSD faults, protection mis‑operations, earthing issues, harmonics and UPS/backup power faults.
  • Develop and maintain corporate electrical standards, design guides and procurement specifications for motors, starters, VSDs, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, UPS and related electrical equipment.
  • Lead or support Corporate Continuous Improvement programs or initiatives, focused on Equipment Reliability, Inspection Quality, or Lifecycle Management.
  • Contribute to purchasing strategies and vendor qualification for electrical equipment and power systems.
  • Champion Process Safety, Occupational Safety, Electrical Equipment Integrity, and an Operational Excellence Culture across the NewCo organisation.
  • Work effectively across the organisation, including diverse and multicultural teams to build consensus, deliver practical solutions and gain company wide support for organisational goals.

You Bring This Value

Education:

 

A Bachelor’s degree, MEng or MSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

 

Work Experience:

 

Minimum of 10 –15+ years in Electrical Engineering within Oil and gas, petrochemical, refining or heavy industry with demonstrable in plant experience supporting turnarounds, maintenance and reliability of motors, MCCs, switchgear and power systems. Offshore or onshore asset experience advantageous.

Able to demonstrate strong in-plant manufacturing experience within the fields of Inspection, Reliability, Maintenance, Fitness for Service, and the repair of Electrical Systems/ Equipment is essential.

Experience supporting major Turnarounds is also essential.

Professional Status: Chartered Engineer (CEng) or IET membership preferred.

Safety Training: NEBOSH or equivalent advantageous.

  • Experienced supporting execution of a major plant Turnaround.
  • Plant experience in a variety of equipment life cycle issues including specification, design, inspection, repair, and evaluating equipment Fitness for Service.
  • Demonstrated experience in authoring technical reports, standards, specifications, procedures and other technical documents.

Languages

Fluent in English (written and spoken). Fluency in French, German and/or Dutch is a plus.
