Basic Function

The Instrument and Electrical Maintenance Technician's primary roles are the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of various instrument and electrical components and systems at the Matagorda High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) manufacturing facility, located 13 miles south of Bay City, TX. Instrument and electrical equipment at the Matagorda complex includes a wide variety of level, pressure, temperature, and flow transmitters, control valves, Emerson Provox and Delta V process controls, PLC’s, electric motors up to 9000 HP, low, medium, and high-voltage switchgear.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Provide troubleshooting, repair and proactive maintenance to site process equipment
  • Provide technical expertise in the installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, pro-active maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of unit equipment including transformers, breakers and other power distribution equipment, motor starters, motors, level instruments, flow and pressure instruments, control valves, PLC's and other process and machinery control systems, etc.
  • Execute scheduled work by:
    • Reviewing assigned job scopes for completeness and understanding.
    • Acquiring all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job to maximize work efficiency.
    • Following all necessary safety procedures and practices to isolate, clear, and work on plant equipment.
    • Ensuring work is completed per company and industry standards.
    • Working with equipment owner to complete task in a safe and timely manner.
    • Updating supervisor on job progress and any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work.
    • Completing all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Respond to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.
  • Identify and implement reliability driven improvements. This may include participation in site reliability teams.
  • Participate on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development, and improving the work place environment.

Min. Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least one (1) of the following four (4):
    • 2 years of maintenance experience in instrumentation in an industrial environment
    • NCCER Instrument Technician certification
    • Journeyman Instrument Technician from a recognized apprenticeship program
    • Associate's degree in Instrumentation from an accredited college or trade school
  • Advanced understanding of equipment design and application for various types of electrical and instrumentation: pressure, temperature, level and flow devices, transformers, motor starters, circuit breakers, control circuits, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of specification sheets, loop diagrams, and P&ID's, is required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship.
  • Must be willing and able to provide overtime coverage or work occasional plant call-outs.
  • Must be willing to work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to work outside, year round under various weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Must be willing and able to work in tight or confined spaces as well as work from heights.
  • Must be will and able to lift up to 50 pounds.  #LI-CB1
