Basic Function

This position is responsible and accountable for leading and managing key product platform and process innovation programs within Engineered Composites.  This will include leading multifunctional project teams.  The position is to champion projects that lead to stepwise or breakthrough innovation with line of sight to commercial application.

 

Provide expertise, guidance and facilitate knowledge transfer within the EC Global Business to ensure effective deployment of new and existing technologies.  Assure that new products exhibit excellence in product functional equivalency, process definition, and quality consistency across sites and global regions.

 

Provide guidance to others on continuous improvement programs to drive improvements in quality, consistency, productivity and overall reduction in costs.  Act as a representative of the departments leadership team.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment, report incidents, and exhibit good environmental practices and procedures consistent with job(s) performed and HSE (Health Safety Environmental) requirements. 
  • Work closely with other members of the business team to identify, define, scope out and justify the business case for new innovation programs offering stepwise change in performance and capability. 
  • Champion key innovation programs and initiatives for the EC Business Globally.  Lead multifunctional project teams that will include chemists, engineers & technicians to deliver new product and process innovation. 
  • Manage and execute work activities and schedule as needed to complete key product and process innovation projects within scope, on time and within budget.  
  • Monitor and assess patent activity related to our industry regarding opportunities and threats to our business.  Identify and assess potential opportunities to file or acquire patents. 
  • Monitor emerging technology trends with potential impact to our industry, including novel raw materials and processes, potential new applications, and engage with selective scouting activity. 
  • Provide guidance and knowledge transfer to formulate engineered composite compounds to meet customer’s global needs.
  • Provide material science, product and process development expertise and support to the engineered composite business.
  • In addition to leading key innovation programs and initiatives, the Innovation Lead will provide guidance to Product Management, Marketing/Sales and Operations in the development of new and improvement of existing formulations.
  • Provide guidance to Procurement and Technical teams to ensure and evaluate alternative and second sources raw materials to minimize risks and exposure for the business.
  • Provide guidance to manufacturing on continuous improvement programs to drive improvements in quality, consistency, productivity and overall reduction in costs. 

Min. Qualifications

  • Ph.D. Degree in Chemistry, Polymer, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or related, required. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in research and development, formulation chemistry, process engineering, product development, or project management within Advanced materials required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical business leadership role, such as, technical project management, technology implementation, or personnel management, required. 
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 5-10% of the time. 
  • Candidate must have safe and quality oriented work ethic.
  • Experience in leading and managing technical teams and projects. 
  • High level of scientific verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of engineering aptitude in design of experiments.
  • High level of material science knowledge.
  • Understand ASTM/WI's that relate to department activities and aware of Quality Policy Statement. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of thermoset chemistry, manufacturing of SMC, BMC, or related products, preferred. 
  • Knowledge of composite molding processes, such as, injection molding and compression molding, preferred.  
  • Proficient in the use of computers and spreadsheet software with experience in business systems (ERP Systems, QMS, Microsoft Office)
