Sr. Maintenance & Reliability Engineer Matagorda

Basic Function

The Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability Engineer position provides primarily rotating equipment mechanical maintenance and reliability engineering technical support for four Polymer production lines at the LyondellBasell Matagorda plant, located 15 miles south of Bay City, TX. This position will also provide some fixed equipment mechanical maintenance. The candidate will support production unit maintenance/reliability efforts and drive improvements in maintenance work processes, procedures, performance, and cost.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot issues with mechanical equipment (reciprocating compressors, pumps, gearboxes, blowers, polymer compounding equipment)
•  Assess the performance/condition of machinery, bearings, seals, polymer equipment
• Conduct investigations to determine the root cause of equipment failures, complete and close findings as required
• Active member of site area optimization teams which identify, prioritize, and resolve leveraging maintenance/reliability/production issues
• Provide technical support to both operations and maintenance
• Provide technical/engineering-specific for the design of new and inspection/repair of existing pieces of mechanical equipment
• Provide support to establish adequate spare parts and recurring preventative maintenance tasks equipment
• Provide planning support for major machinery overhauls, specifying the scope of required work and technical details to ensure successful execution
• Provide technical support for plant expense and capital projects
• Mentor engineers, specialists, and technicians and provide training in the area of mechanical equipment operation and repair
• Support and participate in the site’s safety programs

Min. Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the refining/petrochemical industry (polymer industry experience preferred, but not required)
• Must demonstrate a working knowledge of all applicable engineering codes/standards and their application
• A thorough knowledge of operating processes, equipment, and materials, as well as critical analytical skills are needed to effectively evaluate equipment performance and problems
• General knowledge of project management, reliability engineering, and root cause analysis
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing at all levels of the organization
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are critical for the resolution of issues associated with completing day tday-to-dayvities and are key to the ability to relate complex concepts to a diverse workforce
• Critical analytical skills are needed to effectively evaluate equipment performance and troubleshoot equipment and process problems
• Drive for results

Preferred Qualifications

• While experience with both fixed and rotating equipment is preferred, the job position is slanted towards rotating.
• Polymer industry experience preferred, but not required.
