The Application Development and Technical Service Manager – EC (Engineered Composites) reports to the EC Manager, Innovation and Labs and provides day-to-day leadership to a team of (4) ADTS Engineers. This role ensures that technical resources and activities are aligned to deliver regional support of strategic customers and market opportunities, by facilitating the timely and effective provision of technological solutions in targeted market segments, while also providing technical support to key customers.
This position will require up to 50% travel. The preferred location is at one of the EC production factilities; Perrysburg OH, Bay City MI, or North Kingsville OH. The two primary responsibilities of this position is to provide day-to-day leadership of the EC ADTS Engineering Team and to personally support EC’s customers serving as an ADTS Engineer.

A Day in the Life
- Comply with all LYB requirements and policies related to business ethics, code of conduct, and safety.
- Possess a deep and broad fundamental understanding of key thermoset composite technologies and applications in the respective market segments and use these skills to drive technical service and application development activities within the group.
- Excellent understanding of vital cross-functional group’s responsibilities and use this knowledge to effectively and quickly drive technical service and application development activities within the group.
- Assist in conducting dialogues with direct reports and hold them accountable to their defined customer, projects, and budgetary goals/objectives.
- Provide strategic leadership in identifying, developing, and implementing tools, systems, and processes to continuously improve technical service, application development, and project management effectiveness.
- Understand broad customer, market, and industry needs/trends and facilitate the group's interaction with other cross-functional organizations to frame these into value-added opportunities.
- Drive and manage teamwork and collaboration within the group while also fostering effective communication across functions; align resources as necessary to meet business needs.
- Drive improvement and development of direct reports, assisting in hiring and training efforts; empowering employees to make decisions.
- Understand financial analysis and drive the utilization of good project management skills and tools to advance product and application development projects effectively.
- Lead efforts to embrace and drive change while also challenging the status quo and influencing management as necessary.
- Exercise risk management related to ADTS activities (e.g. technical recommendations), GoalZero Safety, Product Stewardship, Regulatory affairs.
- Provide technical service to customers as required to support product/application launch and ongoing business in the following areas:
- Direct troubleshooting applications with process and or tooling concerns at customer plant locations.
- Work with customers regarding cost savings or process optimization opportunities.
- Support newly awarded programs with part design, shrinkage estimations, mold filling analysis reviews, gate optimization, trial support, and product recommendations.
- Assist in the growth of EC business by identifying and influencing share-shift opportunities and promoting future program awards.
- Work directly with customers to clarify technical and commercial requirements for new applications and suggest suitable products that provide value to their applications.
- Work with Sales Account Managers to develop a business strategy for all assigned accounts.
- Assist in the validation of product transfers or product rationalization.
- Identify, research, and validate new application development opportunities aligned with the EC business unit growth strategy that provides technical innovation and value creation to our customers.
- Participate with the global teams to ensure the implementation of global strategies.
- Participate in industry trade conferences as required to keep current on market knowledge and market trends.
- Participate and present in both internal and external (customer) workshops as required.
- Support Plant Quality, Sales, and PAD in quality claims both internally and externally.
- Adhere to LYB’s requirements of Intellectual Property and Product Stewardship.
You Bring This Value
Education:
- University Technical Bachelor's degree with a preference in Plastics/Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Accredited Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a plus.
Skills:
- Ability to develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders, industry experts, and key industry associations in target markets.
- Good understanding LYB’s long-term strategy, plans, and objectives and the key profitability drivers in each market segment is necessary for success.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine correspondence effectively, and speak fluently with internal and external customers.
- Ability to perform competitive benchmark analysis.
Work Experience
- In order to perform this job successfully, the ideal candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of technical experience with exposure to LYB’s Engineered Composites business preferred.
- Extensive experience with compression and injection molding thermoset composite conversion processes. Other processes are a plus.
- Broad knowledge of thermoset composites and performance relationships for applications, along with expertise in conversion/processing equipment.
- Proven Self-motivation – the ability to work independently, prioritize customer scheduling and deliver results with limited supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, open to listening and sharing experiences.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to analyze problems quickly and summarize effectively.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Work directly with Customers, Sales Account Managers, and New Business Development to clarify technical and commercial requirements for new applications and make a suitable product recommendation.
