Asset Manager, HDPE

Basic Function

This position leads development and implementation of market, product and pricing strategies for allocated assets (HDPE) which ensure timely sales of products and captures maximum value in the relevant market segments.


The incumbent serves as asset owner, manages the sales and inventory positions of the relevant portfolio of products and drives initiatives to maximize the sales offtake and value from allocated Chinese assets (HDPE) consistent with the companies’ or assets strategies. 


The incumbent serves as the lead on a range of business activities to ensure the relevant products are being sold in a timely manner at, or better than, market prices and minimizes aged inventory or other inventory related costs.  These activities include both commercial and operational decisions related to tactical direction, pricing, price premiums, customer profiles, demand plans and revenue growth opportunities.  The incumbent has the price authority on relevant products.


The incumbent is considered an expert with a span of business and market knowledge extending across polyolefins markets in China.


The position frequently interfaces with the Asia Business Director, the Asia Sales Director, Marketing Managers, China JV Management and the leader of Application Development and Technical Service or ADTS.  The incumbent is a core member of the Business Team (along with the Regional Sales Manager, Marketing Manager, Business Analyst and Operations Planner).


The position requires also interaction with operational staff groups (Supply Chain and HSE are examples), the Joint Venture or JV Business/Planning staff group and a broad array of functional groups such as Finance & Control, Credit, Treasury and Tax.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Manage the relevant product offtake of assigned asset(s) and ensure product offtake can achieve maximum volume level on weekly basis.
  • Lead weekly/daily price setting for product sales prices which are consistent with market dynamics.  Minimize inventory levels at all hubs or terminals as applicable.  Price setting should facilitate timely sales volume and capture best available value under a very fast paced environment. 
  • Lead the monthly demand planning process, from business perspective, and ensure product distribution by each hub or terminal can achieve maximum weekly sales offtake.
  • Understand product groups segment performance (including pricing) vs. external benchmarks.  Identify actions and set the direction / leadership to close gaps where appropriate.
  • Identify key drivers and competitive dynamics on relevant products.  Define corresponding market, product, customer and asset developments to formulate action plans to drive implementation.  These initiatives will address opportunities on optimization of product portfolio. 
  • Coordinate with the JV asset on product portfolio decisions as appropriate.
  • Provide weekly business report on relevant products as required and report China polyolefins market intelligence on regular basis. 
  • Drives the Enterprise Planning Process on relevant products to support the Annual Business Plan or Budget processes.
Min. Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of working experience, with 8 years or more in polyolefins or related chemical industry with no less than 5 years of RMB domestic sales experience in China.  Product management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in either a technical or business field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Interpersonal skills required to work with senior management and to operate effectively as a business owner.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Advanced PC skills, including spreadsheets and graphics.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English language skills
  • Able to read and write Chinese and communicate in Mandarin
