Basic Function

The Training Specialist at LyondellBasell's Chocolate Bayou (CBO) site is responsible for developing, maintaining, and overseeing the site’s training programs to ensure all employees and co-ops receive the training necessary to grow their knowledge and skills to perform their roles and tasks safely and successfully.  Training programs may include, but are not limited to, Operations, Maintenance, HSES, Engineering, Quality, Leadership, and more.   The Training Specialist is also responsible for assuring all employees’ regulatory, corporate, Operational Excellence, site, and role-based training requirements are assigned and offered to site employees, the training material is developed and kept evergreen, and training completions are recorded in the Learning Management System (LMS).
 

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Own, design, and maintain site’s Learning Management System (LMS) training programs
•    Site LMS Functional Administrator and SME that develops and oversees site’s assignment profiles, curricula, items, scheduled offerings, programs, post-tests, and completion records. 
•    Develop and maintain the site’s training matrix and training plans in accordance with federal and state regulations, corporate and site requirements, and management preferences.   
•    Incorporate instructional system design and adult learning theory into training materials. 
•    Collaborate with SMEs to create computer-based training modules, instructor-led trainings, technical training manuals, training program materials, and knowledge-based and skill-based assessments.
•    Work with SMEs to review and revise all training materials, according to the corporate record retention policy, to ensure content is accurate and relevant.
•    Instruct various classes and workshops when a SME is not available. 
•    Develop and deliver training materials as needed for identified training needs and knowledge/skills gaps based on assessment scores, incidents, audit or self-assessment or management review findings, leadership preference, etc.
•    Schedule and facilitate onboarding for new / transfer hire orientations
•    Manage your site’s Operations Qualification and Requalification training programs in accordance to external regulations, corporate and site requirements, and leadership preferences
•    Set up Quarterly Training Days for employee knowledge and skills development
•    Maintain training records in accordance with the global Record Retention Policy and provide training records as necessary for audits and other requests
•    Create and distribute training communications, such as MOCs, safety meetings, PHAs, PCAs, etc.
•    Schedule and facilitate instructor-led courses ensuring instructor’s needs are met, classroom is set up, lunches are arranged (if necessary), and training completions are recorded
•    Participate in PHAs and PSSRs, as needed
•    Participate in South Texas Polymers (STxP) Training Team meetings and continuous improvement projects
•    Participate in GTLS network
•    Network with other site training personnel to be informed of activities, share best practices, and implement as necessary.

Min. Qualifications

•    Be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. 
•    Minimum of 5 years of plant experience. Multiple department experience is preferred. 
•    Possess effective organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills and be able to interface with all personnel on-site in a positive, clear, and collaborative manner. 
•    The successful candidate must possess independent decision-making skills, a high degree of ownership, and be able to work autonomously. 
•    Knowledge of instructional system design and adult learning theories.
•    Must have change management skills and experience implementing changes.  
•    Must have advanced competency in Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.   
•    Collaboration skills.
•    Able to provide leadership to groups to achieve desired results in the role of a trainer. Lead, organize, or coordinate the following group activities: training classes, technical review workshops, and planning meetings. 
•    Skilled at time management and effectively managing classrooms. 
•    Conducts duties with the appropriate level of confidentiality. 
•    Active listener and capable of understanding the customer (both internal and external). 
•    Strong customer service skills, anticipates customer needs, giving high priority to customer satisfaction.  
•    Skilled at providing attention to details, shows concern for all aspects of the job & accurately checks processes & tasks, maintaining long-term watchfulness of the processes and accuracy of data. Working knowledge of auditing practices for quality assurance. 
•    Skilled at multi-tasking and very strong organizational skills; maintains effectiveness in varying environments with different tasks, responsibilities, and people. 
•    High adaptability; outgoing & personable; maintains & promotes social, ethical, & organizational norms in conducting internal & external business activities. 
•    Experience in working with databases to generate reports, analyze information, and troubleshoot problems. 
•    Must be willing and able to stand and walk for extended periods of time as well as frequently bend, reach, and lift. 
•    The candidate must be willing and able to work outside, year-round under various weather conditions. 
•    The candidate must be capable of climbing (scaffolds, towers, vessels, etc.). 
•    Able to lift up to 50 pounds. 
•    Able to wear appropriate protective equipment. 

Preferred Qualifications

•    Learning Management System functional administrator experience.
•    Have knowledge of Chocolate Bayou’s process technology, quality business drivers, and products.  
•    Knowledge of Operational Excellence (OE) standards.
•    Knowledge of federal and state chemical industry regulations.
