Basic Function

This position has the responsibility for managing the engineering disciplines for the Capital Projects department, including electrical, mechanical, process and document control.   The primary function of the discipline engineering group is supporting the execution of capital projects by ensuring sound technical solutions that meets quality requirements, regulatory standards and engineering specifications and standards.  

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative and technical supervision of discipline engineering resources that directly support and are assigned to the Capital Projects organization.  
  • Ensure that appropriate resource staffing to adequately support capital project related activities.  This includes staffing of positions, cross-training coordination, and continuous professional development of the overall team skillset while supporting a High-Performance Culture.
  • Ensure group specifications and standards comply with LyondellBasell standards and  regulatory & legal requirements.
  • Ensure technical solutions proposed by Capital Projects meets quality requirements, regulatory standards, engineering specifications and standards
  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and report metrics for each discipline to help improve the performance of the group and communicate these metrics to management.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on governance, compliance requirements, procedures, processes, best practices and ensure to implement relevant  aspects.  Report these items as required.
  • Routinely assess and report recommendations for improvements or necessary software/hardware upgrades to ensure the capital team stays effective.  
  • Manage the process design for capital projects.
  • Maintain strong safety and environmental compliance focus.
  • Contribute in a team environment and establish work relationships with onsite and offsite functional groups to achieve results.
  • Balance day-to-day operational priorities with long term strategic objectives to ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Manage less experienced engineers, as well as technical training to others.

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within the chemical industry 
  • 5 years managerial/team lead experience is preferred
