Basic Function

The APS USCAN Regional Quality Assurance Manager champions, supports and/or leads quality assurance compliance and improvement initiatives together with internal stakeholders and with the customer for APS USCAN Manufacturing sites in the Engineered Polymers (EP), Specialty Powders (SP), and Masterbatch (MBS) business units.  The role monitors and advises on how the overall quality management system is performing, utilizing statistics of actual performance against set targeted measures.  A key aspect of this role is ensuring customer requirements and expectations have been accurately identified and the organization is meeting or exceeding customer expectations.  This role may also extend to determining how customers’ expectations will change over time and what the organization needs to do to meet these changing expectations.  
Additionally, the APS USCAN Regional Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of a customer-focused culture within the APS organization. The role will be involved in developing the APS quality goals and targets in the APS organization’s strategic plan as well as develop internal processes necessary to maintain all certifications such as IATF/ISO.  The job function covers all aspects of Manufacturing and Customer quality requirements and thus requires the ability to assimilate and analyze information and achieve results while working with and through others. #LI-TF1

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Ensure the components of a sound Quality Management System are in place, effective, maintained and comply with LyondellBasell and Certification body (IATF/ISO) standards
  • Provide leadership in the areas of Quality Tools, Methods & Strategies to the Manufacturing Site Quality Teams and to Business groups
  • Serve as a liaison with customers in the area of Quality
  • Develop internal processes necessary to maintain all certifications, such as IATF/ISO.
  • Participates in customer, internal, and third-party audits of the quality management system.
  • Track Quality Notifications (QN) and coordinate their timely completion with all involved parties
  • Provide leadership in the areas of Quality Tools, Methods, and Strategies to Site Quality Teams.
  • Proactively lead the investigation and resolution of customer quality concerns by working jointly with Sales, PAD, ADTS, Supply Chain and Plant Quality to complete in timely manner:
    • Qualitative and Quantitative definition of the actual issue
    • Submission of any suspect material/parts to the appropriate LYB testing location for analysis
    • Line up meetings both internally and with the customer to review the issue and subsequent analytical findings to resolve the issue fully
  • Coordinate the completion of 8D reports, both internal and external.
  • Assume a leading role in process improvement for operations incidents that involve internally rejected materials. This involves participating in a cross-functional team, determining the root cause, and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Tracks and monitors non-conforming materials consisting mainly of scrap, internal rejections, and returns. Makes recommendations for material disposition to the Marketing Management team.
  • Define and drive the supplier qualification and assessment (audits) to ensure our feedstock supply base is qualified and compliant including:
    • Focus on the quick and effective resolution of quality issues or services related to Suppliers.
    • Drive continual improvement of the Supplier evaluation system in conjunction with the areas involved
    • Drive Supplier Quality Development Strategy
  • Conduct process capability studies for laboratory molding and testing equipment to ASTM and ISO standards.
  • Organize annual inter-laboratory (round-robin) testing for selected APS Manufacturing sites to determine the reproducibility of test methods and processes. 
  • Perform Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to determine the reproducibility of a test method or manufacturing process to identify risks and possible errors from many sources.
  • Leads key improvement projects and best practices across multiple Manufacturing sites.
  • Review requests for new in-process test equipment for physical and aesthetic properties. 
  • Approximately 25% travel required as business needs dictate.

Min. Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or other related field
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Quality related roles
  • Experience in ISO and IATF Certification
  • Knowledge and sound understanding of Quality Management Systems, Six Sigma, Statistical Analysis, Quality Tools (FMEA, PPAP, APQP, etc.) and Corrective Action Tools, 
  • Good Computer Skills such as Excel, Power BI, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, SPC, Capability Studies, DOEs, Regression Analysis, Graphical Analysis, Gage R&R, Measurement System Analysis, etc. 
  • Possesses good interpersonal and communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or other technical field
  • Certified Quality Engineer or Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Excellent Computer Skills
