Basic Function

We are currently seeking to fill a position at LyondellBasell’s Bayport Polymers site located 27 miles east of Houston, TX. Our Bayport site has approximately 316 employees and contractors and is a world class chemical manufacturing facility with 4 operating units producing Polypropylene (PP) resins. The Operations Team Lead is a working team lead for the Bayport Operations Department. The individual reports to the Operations Manager for the Bayport site. The lead will coach, mentor, and supervise production engineers and process specialist to ensure development and safe execution of Bayport’s operating plan. This is a developmental role for an Engineer seeking to become a future Manager within LyondellBasell.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Leads a team of Production Line Engineers and Process Specialists by setting priorities for those providing expert support to the Bayport polymer production lines.
• Ensures process safety, reliability, quality and production targets are met.
• Sets high expectations for quality and timeliness of action item (MOC, Intelex, etc.) resolution.
• Manage available resources in support of PHA’s, investigations, site initiatives & other activities.
• Drive implementation of the Operations Department strategic plan and improvement activities by working closely with Operations manager to resolve tactical unit reliability or quality issues. 
• Sets clear performance expectations, coaches and mentors Line Engineering personnel.
• Sets clear performance expectations, coaches and mentors Process Specialist. 
• Delivers GoalZero performance through strong leadership, employee/contractor involvement, overall site engagement, and full utilization of management systems.
• Responsible for implementation and adherence of Operational Excellence standards.
• Ensures that Code of Conduct and all other LyondellBasell policies are consistently followed and administered within the Operations organization.

Min. Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering as a minimum requirement
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as an engineer in refining, petrochemical, or chemical processes
  • Strong personal leadership skills
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills, and be able to manage performance through effective dialog
  • Good coaching and mentoring skills
  • Good organizational and prioritization skills
  • Commitment to HSE
  • Good computer skills  
  • MOC system qualification or similar MOC experience
  • The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and through written documents is required
  • Must be a self-starter and be willing to seek opportunities for improvements within the site

Preferred Qualifications

•    Chemical Engineering degree
•    6+ years of experience in a refining, petrochemical, or chemical environment
•    4+ years of polymer experience
