Basic Function

This position assists Project Engineering, Process Engineering, and Maintenance departments in the maintenance, modification, and documentation of existing control systems at the Mansfield plant.  The Controls Technician will be required to aid Engineering in the installation, start up and troubleshooting of new control systems. 

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Comply with all company Safety and Quality systems and contribute to maintaining positive trends in department metrics through continuous improvement activities.  
•    Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve PLC and Wonderware programs
•    Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation
•    Initiate change notices and maintain records of all control activities
•    Support design, construction and start-up of controls systems.
•    Perform basic mechanical and preventive/predictive tasks
•    Reliability is essential for handling job responsibilities and providing quality customer service; therefore, good attendance and productivity are essential job requirements for this position.
•    Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations. LI-RH1

Min. Qualifications

Knowledge:  
•    Read and understand ladder logic.
•    Read and understand electrical drawings.
•    Understand electrical theory, motor controls, and variable speed drives (AC and DC).
•    Understand serial communication (RS-232, RS-485, DH+, etc.).
•    Understand instrumentation functions calibration of transmitters and switches.
 
Skills: 
•    Ability to read and program Allen-Bradley and Honeywell PLCs.
•    Willing to learn how to read and program Wonderware human-machine interface.
•    Ability to calibrate and install transmitters and switches.
•    Familiar with PC’s and Microsoft Office.
 
Qualifications:  
•    Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in electrical, PLC, and ladder logic installation and troubleshooting.
•    A minimum of a high school education.
•    Journeyman electrician license (Master’s license preferred) or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Ability to work a 40 hour work week plus frequent overtime.
•    Must be willing to work occasional plant call-outs.
•    Ability to lift 50 pounds on an intermittent basis.
•    Ability to climb to heights of 84 feet on a material silo.
•    Must be able to tolerate working environment with inside ambient temperatures, including excessive heat and cold.
•    Requires (Near/Far/Color/Depth) vision to drive forklift, scissor lift, boom lift and identify hazardous material warning labels.
•    Must be able to tolerate working environment with outside ambient temperatures, including excessive heat, cold, and precipitation.
•    Requires learning and following all PPE and work practice requirements for Arc Flash Hazard Areas (training provided)
•    Requires working on and troubleshooting up to 480V 3-phase electrical circuits (MCCs, Drives, etc.) and some work on 750V DC motor control circuits
•    Must be able to demonstrate proficient and safe use of electrical testing equipment (multi-meter, oscilloscope, etc.)
