Basic Function

As the Marketing Manager, MTBE you will be part of the Global Oxyfuels commercial team responsible for optimizing the value created from market development activities, globally optimizing trade flows and leveraging our assets to maximize customer centricity and profitability.

You will focus on developing and implementing market, product and pricing strategies which create market value and capture the maximum potential in the relevant market segments for MTBE. 

This position is responsible and accountable for ongoing management of the MTBE as part of the TBA chain in the Americas for both supply and commercial /marketing strategies and is part of the global team that drives the overall TBA optimization in order to maximize and sustain bottom-line profitability in a dynamic market and highly volatile environment. You will also have the accountability to drive the pricing window strategy for MTBE that sets 80% of our global TBA pricing. 

Responsibility includes structuring and running market / product optimization initiatives and managing commercial agreements (term and spot) in close collaboration with the Oxyfuel product trader, other regional marketing managers’ and senior management to drive the short term operational optimizations of the TBA molecule. 

Also you will collaborate with the Commercial Operations and Supply Chain organizations. This role requires good matrix management skills as the incumbent must effectively communicate and drive the Business strategy across a variety of different stakeholders both internally and externally in a customer and supplier facing role.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Leads the strategy and tactics on the pricing for MTBE which is pricing for >80% of our global TBA portfolio (2.5 Million metric tons) 
  • To lead, manage and direct all marketing decisions on MTBE. Responsibility for maximizing the profitability in line with the overall business strategy. 
  • Develop and maintain detailed analysis of relevant and appropriately sub segmented markets, identifying key drivers, competitive dynamics and customer/product portfolios.
  • Develop detailed (annual) marketing plans by product that determine market and account positioning and addressing initiatives required in terms of marketing, products, customers, contract positioning, price positioning and asset capability in close cooperation with the other commercial/sales and senior management. Drive implementation of the set initiatives. 
  • Develop key account strategies consistent with volume targets. Drives and negotiates sales agreements. 
  • Purchases and negotiates ethanol contract price settlements  
  • Understand market segment performance versus external benchmarks and identify actions to close gaps as appropriate. 
  • Contribute to short term results and execution of the marketing plan through detailed engagement in development and oversight of short term pricing guidelines and corresponding decision support, performance reporting, analysis of market and competitive trends and product and customer portfolio management.  
  • Maximizes the realization of additional market and financial optimization opportunities to exploit LyondellBasell’s cost position.
  • Manages the planning and sourcing process to minimize costs, including inventory, according to industry benchmarks.
  • Develop long-term plans for full asset loading and drive budget process.
  • Responsible for data and financial reporting integrity within BU TBA chain.
  • Responsible for the profit-driven and customer-oriented operation of TBA Chain in their individual dimensions, including establishing, maintaining and improving effective interfaces with all relevant organizations inside and outside Oxyfuels organization.
  • Manage the yearly business planning process: sets targets for working capital, volumes of sales in each channel, price targets, balance between term and spot sales/purchases.
  • Continuously collect market intelligence so as to adjust strategy, seize opportunities and benchmark against competition

Min. Qualifications

  • University degree – Technical preferred and/or degree in Business Administration minimum bachelor, preferably MBA. 
  • Minimum of 10 – 15 years professional experience in Marketing, Sales or Business Services (Trading / Operations Planning / Business Finance, BDA functions)
  • In depth knowledge of a highly competitive and fast changing commodity market and good knowledge of the gasoline or energy market as a whole 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cross-function experience preferred  (ideally in  various different functions and disciplines in the chemical industry, preferably in the commercial, financial and/or manufacturing area).
  • Bilingual in one more South American languages is a plus
